Synthesis and characterization of lanthanide incorporated ETS-10

Lanthanide containing ET(L)S - 10 was synthesized from gels of composition Na2O - 0.6 KF- 0.2 TiO2- (1.45+α) HCl - yM2O3 (M=Eu, Tb...)-1.49 SiO2-39.5H2O at 200Co for 24 h. The product was calcinated at 500oC overnight. XRD patterns are almost identical to the corresponding ETS-10 samples. With increasing the ratio of lanthanide in a reaction mixture, the quartz phase in XRD pattern of ETLS-10 increased. The lanthanide content and site incorporated within ET(L)S-10 framework can be measured by photoluminescence spectroscopy. The amount of Eu remained, while the amount of sodium and potassium decreased through ion exchange with copper solution. It indicates that europium incorporated within the flamework of ETLS-10. Nitrogen absorption - desorption isotherm showed a type Ⅰ isotherm, typical of microporous materials. The Brunaure-Emmett-Teller(BET) surface area and pore volume were 263 m2/g and 0.18 cm3/g for ETEuS-10 and, 270 m2/g and 0.29 cm3/g for ETTbS-10, respectively. The TEM image showed that ETS-10 have a uniform pore arrays, while ET(L)S-10 have a non-uniform pore arrays due to the isomorphous substitutions of large lanthanide into the Ti site. The PL spectrum of ETLS-10 illustrated the characteristic luminescence peaks of Eu (5D → 5F) and Tb (5D → 7F).
