Poly(TH-co-EDOP), a new electrochromic polymer, was synthesized and polymerized both chemically and electrochemically. Spectroelectrochemical investigations showed that resulting copolymer film has distinct electrochromic properties. A direct correlation between the color of the polymer in neutral state and the applied potential during synthesis was observed. At the neutral state λmax due to the π-π* transition was found to be 528 nm. The device switches between dark blue and red-orange upon application from +1.5 to 0.0 V, respectively. Double potential step chronoamperometry experiment shows that copolymer film has good stability, fast switching time and high optical contrast. Electrochromic device based on P(TH-co-EDOP) and PEDOT was constructed and characterized.
