Photo-induced Surface Wettability Conversion of Zinc Oxide Thin Films

The ZnO films were prepared by RF magnetron sputtering on glass substrates with the ZnO targets. We investigated on the optical and electrical properties of the as-sputtered ZnO films as dependences of the RF power and Ar gas flux. All the ZnO films had shown a preferred orientation in the [001] direction. The electrical resistivity was also changed with changing RF power and Ar gas flux. The photoinduced surface wettability conversion reaction of ZnO thin films were investigated by means of water contact angle measurement and scanning electron microscopy. Before UV illumination, ZnO films exhibited water contact angles of hydrophobic. But UV illumination turned surfaces to highly hydrophilic with water contact angles smaller.
