Chromium-doped manganese oxidealumina nanocomposite was successfully synthesized by hydrothermal treatment for aqeous solution containing MnO4/CrO42– - Al137+ ion adducts. The crystal structure of the as-prepared nanocomposite could be controlled via post-calcination process at elevated temperatures. According to powder X-ray diffraction analysis, the as-prepared metal oxidealumina nanocomposite is X-ray amorphous whereas the post-calcination process gave rise to the crystallization into tunnel-structured-MnO2 and Al2O3 phases. The doping of chromium in the nanocomposite was confirmed by energy dispersive spectrometry. From electron microscopic analysis, the as-prepared nanocomposite showed very small crystallite size in tens of nanometer and its crystal size remained nearly unchanged even after the post-calcination at elevated temperature. The effect of Cr doping on the physicochemical properties and catalytic activity of the nanocomposite will be discussed in detail.
