Investigation on Mixed Crystals of Anthracene Derivatives Containing Phenyl / Pentafluorophenyl

The use of aromatic/perfluoroaromatic compounds interaction has been known a useful and reliable way to control the packing of crystals. New soluble anthracene derivatives containing phenyl and pentafluorophenyl were synthesized and characterized. The interaction of the mixed crystals with a mole ratio of 1:1 was studied. Their optical properties have been investigated by UV-Vis absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy and their thermal properties have been characterized by DSC. Comparing to each pure compound, fluorescence spectroscopy of mixed crystals showed large red-shift with a maximum emission peak at 537 nm. The melting point of the mixed crystals was measured to be 232 ˚C, which was higher than that of anthrancene-phenyl (219 ˚C) and a slight lower than that of anthrancene-phenyl (235 ˚C). These preliminary results indicated that the interaction was involved in phenyl/perfluorophenyl, which provided good proofs for the further study of the packing order of the mixed crystals by X-ray analysis and application to the devices.
