A fluorescnet crack sensor based on cyclobutane-containing crosslink polymer of cinnamate-type and styrylpyrilium-type monomers

Novel cinnamate-type and styrylpyrilium-type monomers were synthesized. Styrylpyrilium-type dimer(DHSP-dimer) was synthesized by photoreaction via [2+2] cycloaddition. DMSP-dimer was synthesizes by a reaction of DHSP-dimer with metacryloryl chloride. The crosslinking and dimerization of monomers via [2+2] photocycloaddition, reversion of cyclobutane crosslinks to original cinnamoyl and styrylpyrilium groups were confirmed by FT-IR spectroscopy. Microscopic fluorescence images of micro cracks in the polymeric material were obtained. In this work it was demonstrated that the cyclobutane-type dimer and polymer could be used as a crack sensor in polymeric materials.
