Luminescent properties of Tb3+-activated CaSnO3 phosphor under UV ray irradiation

CaSnO3, which has a perovskite structure, was adopted as a host material of new green emitting phosphor. Photoluminescence properties of the terbium-activated calcium tin oxide prepared by the solid state reaction were investigated under UV ray excitation. The CaSnO3:Tb phosphor exhibited strong green luminescence with the main emission peak centered at 545 ㎚ due to energy transfer from 5D4 to 7FJ(J=6,5,4,3) of Tb3+ ion. The concentration of Tb activator exhibiting the maximum emission intensity was optimized from the PL spectrum. Optimum Tb concentration in CaSnO3:Tb under the UV ray excitation with 254 ㎚ wavelength was 0.5 mol%. In addition, luminescent properties of CaSnO3:Tb was compared with that of Zn2SiO4:Mn phosphor.
