A method for the sensitive determination of salicylic acid by flow injection analysis and chemiluminescence detection

The chemiluminescence method for the determination of salicylic acid is proposed, which is based on the enhancement of the chemiluminescence intensity of Ru(bipy)32+-Ce(IV) system with the addition of salicylic acid. The enhancement effect was dependent on the concentration of salicylic acid, based on which, CL system has been developed for the quantitative determination of salicylic acid. The concentrations of Ru(bipy)32+, Ce(IV), and H2SO4 were optimized. Under the optimized conditions, the chemiluminescence intensity is proportional to the concentration in the range of 10.1–141.3 μgL−1 with detection limit of 2.7 μgL−1. The correlation coefficient (R) was 0.9975. The utility of this method was demonstrated by determining salicylic acid in human urine sample.
