Recently, considerable attentions have been devoted to the chronically failing heart. Also, it has been suggested that the chronically failing heart is related to metabolically abnormal states of the heart. Generally, the healthy heart gets its energy to beat from ATP synthesis by oxidative phosphorylation of fatty acid oxidation. Thus, if the balance of the energy metabolism is broken, the healthy heart has to beat in an energy-starved state. In this research, we studied the flux changes of metabolites in myocardial energy metabolism using a computational model of mouse cardiac myocyte when external perturbations, a deletion of reaction in the metabolic pathway, are given. The deletion is given in two different ways. One is an untargeted deletion. The other is targeted deletion. After the changes, we examined the changes of pathways and metabolites to unveil the biological properties of energy metabolism in mouse cardiac myocyte. We founded that the cardiac system did not make a roundabout way under the targeted deletion so that the pathway is considerably broken. It suggested that the energy metabolism in mouse cardiac myocyte was not robust in the targeted attacks.
