Convergent Synthesis of Symmetrical Diblock Codendrimers via Double Click of the Fréchet-type and the PAMAM Dendrons

The amphiphilic dendrimer polymers consisting of both hydrophobic and hydrophilic regions in the same molecule appear as an important issue throughout the physical and life sciences and can be considered unimolecular micelles. Recently an example of block codendrimer composed of two different monodendrons was reported which one block is the Fréchet-type poly(benzyl ether) monodendron and the other one is the aliphatic polyether monodendron. A general strategy for the facile synthesis of diblock codendrimers from distinct component blocks, however, is still needed. The click chemistry, which is useful tool for synthesis of diblock codendrimers, is a Cu(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne [3 + 2] cycloaddition proved to be an ideal reaction in very good to excellent yields. Taking advantage of these facts, we will present the efficient strategy for the convergent synthesis of symmetrical diblock codendrimers containing the Fréchet-type and the PAMAM dendrons via double click reaction.
