Recently, various nanoporous materials have been developed with the well-defined methods in nanometer domain. Such nanoporous materials can be utilized as the templates that provide the rooms for encapsulation of functional nanomaterials, which results the characteristic host/guest functional nanocomposites. In our studies, the dimension controlled nanoporous hosts in the pore size range of a few to hundred nanometers were fabricated by utilizing the various porous oxide materials of MCM (Mobil’s composition of matter), SBA (UC Santa Barbara’s mesoporous silica), AAO (anodic aluminum oxide), and the hybrid composite of hierarchically ordered nanoporous membrane (HOM) which was the patterned SBA within the nanochannels of AAO. The encapsulation of the guest semiconductors within the nanoporous hosts resulted in the unique modulation of the energetic properties, which were investigated by various spectroscopies including picosecond time-resolved emission spectroscopy. Such novel manipulation of the energetic property which can be controlled by applying the dimension and/or functionality of the host nanochannel and the functional guest hopefully provides a tool for the development of new advanced photo-functional materials.
