LiFePO4/carbon composite has been studied with in situ X-ray absorption spectroscopy as cathode material in lithium-ion batteries. It has low toxity, low cost and high theoretical capacity (170 mA/g). Lithium can be extracted from LiFePO4 and inserted into FePO4 along with a flat potential plateau at 3.4 V versus Li/Li+. However, the low eletrical conductivity of LiFePO4 makes difficulty to apply a commercial cathode material. For overcoming this problem, many studies have been found such as carbon coating, metal doping and reduce particle size. In this study, LiFePO4/C composite with alcohol carbon source to enhance the conductivity was prepared by solid-state reaction. The applied alcohol is a mixture of alcohols with different length of carbon chains. In situ X-ray absorption study has been performed to understand of structural change of LiFePO4/C composite during the discharge process. The electrochemical measurements, XRD, and SEM with EDX were also performed.
