We have developed novel lanthanide-cored dendrimer complexes for advanced photonics applications, such as planar waveguide amplifiers, plastic lasers, and light-emitting diodes, etc. The supramolecularly dendritic ligands were specially designed and synthesized in order to provide enough coordination sites to form stable Ln(III)-chelated complexes. For getting a higher optical amplification gain, also, their energy levels were tuned to maintain the effective energy transfer process from light-harvesting dendritic arrays through supramolecular ligands to Ln(III) ions. Also, efficient energy transfer pathways are very important for the development of new and useful luminescent lanthanide complexes with efficient lanthanide emission. However, despite extensive researches, the energy transfer pathways for the sensitization of the lanthanide ions by the luminescent ligands are still not fully understood. In this presentation, design criteria, synthesis and sensitized emission mechanism of novel lanthanide-cored dendrimer complexes will be discussed.
