Aggregation induced emission (AIE) of novel bipyridazine cored symmetric fluorescent materials were studied. Series of AIE molecules end capped with thiophene or 2,3-dihydrothieno[3,4-b][1,4]dioxine were synthesized through Knoevenagel condensation. To investigate the effect of bipyridazine core in AIE, similar structured biphenyl derivatives were synthesized by wittig reaction as reference materials. The fluorescence emission of bipyridazine derivatives in solution were switch-on when the water fraction of water/THF fractions is increased. Aggregated nanoparticle of bipyridazine in solution is 30 times brighter than the separated individual molecules. In contrast, similar structured biphenyl derivatives showed emission decrease when the THF fraction is increased. Computational approaches and application on thin films will be discussed.
