A number of polyfluorene polymers and their derivatives have been studied as emissive layers in light emitting diodes. The interest in these polymers arose because they exhibit high photoluminescence quantum yields and excellent chemical and thermal stability as well as photostability, good solubility and film-forming properties, and can readily be prepared via high-yielding synthetic routes that produce well-defined high molecular weight polymers. In this study we synthesized and characterized new fluorene-based copolymers containing low band gap cyanostilbene comonomer units. The synthesized polymers are synthesized through nickel-catalyzed Yamamoto coupling reaction. These polymers were found to be thermally stable and readily soluble in common organic solvents. The EL device with an ITO/PEDOT:PSS/Polymer/Balq/Ca configuration was fabricated using these polymers. Synthesis and electroluminescent properties of the copolymers will be discussed.
