A large variety of chiral ferrocene-based ligands incorporating both planar and central chirality have found widespread application in asymmetric catalysis. We have recently reported 1,2-ferrocenediylazaphosphinines as a completely new class of planar chiral ferrocenes that are of intense current research interest in the field of asymmetric catalysis. These compounds are shown to be powerful ligands in Cu-catalyzed asymmetric cyclopropanation as well as nucleophilic catalysts for highly regio- and enantioselective ring-opening of epoxides. In this regard, we anticipated that further modification of the chiral pocket in these ligands could lead to highly efficient asymmetric catalysts. Herein, we report synthesis, characterization and catalytic applications of a new class of 1,2-ferrrocenyldiylazaphosphinines bearing a bulky benzyl moiety.
