A searchable library of MS/MS metabolite spectra, obtained using a quadrupole ion trap mass spectrometer and electrospray ionization, is presented for metabolomic profiling of secondary metabolite. The application of wideband excitation and normalized collision energy leads to highly reproducible mass spectra which are searched using the NIST algorithm. This approach lends itself to the creation of fragmentation libraries using the LC/MS/MS, permitting library searching of MS/MS data in conjunction with LC/MS analysis. Plant and food metabolomics: Metabolomics is the analysis of all metabolites for figuring out the effects of environmental factors. Understanding the metabolomic differences of plant from fermentation period (Pu-er tea and fermented soy), place of origin (Chrysanthemum coronarium L var. spatiosum) will lead to QC based choices of nutritional intake. Microbial metabolomics: During the past decade, the phylogenetic position of the microorganisms has been established throughout rRNA studies. Also, the taxonomy rests mainly on morphological characteristics, such as the shapes of the cells, spore, and the fruiting bodies. This is very a non-economical classification in the interest of identification of novel compounds. Fungal secondary metabolites can be used for classification of species and production of bioactive compounds. The metabolome profiling of fungal secondary metabolites will make a dereplicated analysis of secondary metabolites and phylogenic database. In this presentation, I’ll suggest a new form of metabolome DB and library as a source of small molecules and its applications to the functional metabolome screening and chemotaxonomy.
