Dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) utilizing nanotechnology and photosynthesis attracts much attention due to its high solar-to-electricity conversion efficiency, low cost and colorful appearance. DSSC is composed of the high surface area nanoparticle oxide semiconductor film that is sensitized with dye molecules, the redox electrolyte (or hole transport material) and the metal counter electrode. Unlike the conventional pn junction solid state diode, charge generation and charge transport occur in different material for the case of DSSC. In addition, electrolyte-semiconductor interface is 3-4 orders of magnitude higher than that in the solid-solid pn junction. Performance of DSSC are therefore dependent on constituent materials and interface as well as device structure. In this seminar, material, interfacial and device engineering for high efficiency dye-sensitized solar cell will be presented and discussed about future technology to hurdle the current limitation.
