Recently, we have established a class of hybrid molecules, which share dendrimer and block copolymer characteristics. The hybrid system consists of a hydrophilic body (aliphatic ether based dendritic core and linear chain) and hydrophobic peripheries. These new molecules exhibit an unprecedented morphological behavior as a function of volume fraction and temperature. First steps in adding functionality (conductivity) were accomplished through Li-ion doping. Charge transport properties can be modulated as a function of structural dimensionality (from 0-D to 3-D). Furthermore, the molecular hybrids have been employed as structure-directing agents resulting in silica-type nano-materials. Their structures can be tuned as a function of amount of added silica precursor.
