The development of nanoscale circuitry is of utmost importance for the continued increase of computational power. Toward this goal, considerable effort is being devoted to the development of molecular electronic devices based on multiporphyrin arrays that may serve as elements of molecular-scale circuitry in future information processing systems. This involves light as an input/output medium and exciton migration as a mechanism for signal transmission. The time-resolved optical measurements are being conducted to characterize the rates and yields of energy and electron transfer in these arrays. These results further demonstrate that the competition between energy and electron transfer in these arrays can be modulated by the choice of the metalloporphyrin and also, by inference, its location in the array.
