Ultraviolet photofragment spectra of dibenzo-18-crown-6-ether complexes with alkali metal cations (M+-DB18C6, M=K, Rb, and Cs) were obtained in the gas phase using electrospray ionization quadrupole ion-trap reflectron time-of-flight mass spectrometry. The complex ions were produced by electrospray ionization and were stored in the quadrupole ion trap (QIT), which was cooled down to ~10K by a closed cycle helium refrigerator. In contrast to the photodepletion spectra taken at 150 K, the photofragment spectra in this work exhibited well-resolved vibronic peaks. The vibrational progression with an interval of 22cm-1 was also observed and was assigned as the progression of the “butterfly” mode. This mode is found to be strongly coupled to other vibrational modes of the complex ions and the reason for this coupling will be discussed.
