Matrix-assisted desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS) MALDI and Imaging mass spectrometry (IMS) have become powerful tools for biochemical analyses, pharmacology and proteomic researches due to its high sensitivity and accuracy. Although MALDI-MS and IMS have been successful in analyzing varieties of molecules with molecular weight of 1 to 100 kDa and tissue imaging, the addition of organic matrix molecules have resulted in several problems such as interference in low mass-region (m/z <500), hot-spot formation by heterogeneous co-crystallization with analytes and many trial errors to search proper matrix and composition for successful analysis. In this work, we develop a novel LDI MS and IMS platform by utilizing graphene oxide (GO) and aminted multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT) as surface immobilized double layer format on a chemically modified substrate. The fabricated GO/MWNT double layer platform showed excellent durability, ion tolerance, uniform mass signal intensity around overall surface of the GO/MWNT double layer without sweet-spot and cost-effectiveness compared to other existing chip format LDI platforms and provides almost all of the important demands as a LDI platform, which will make the present LDI platform a widely useful and general tool in mass spectrometry research fields.
