Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) of graphene on SiO2 (300 nm)/Si substrate was investigated by depositing Au & Ag nanoparticles using thermal evaporation. When Au & Ag nanoparticles were deposited on the graphene, the G band was enhanced 120 times for Au deposition at 633 nm excitation and 24 times for Ag deposition at 532 nm excitation in single-layer graphene. Single-layer graphene provides much larger SERS enhancement compared to few-layer graphene, while in single-layer graphene the enhancement of the G band was larger than that of the 2D band. After metal nanoparticles deposition, asymmetric G band was observed. The asymmetry of G band is larger in single-layer graphene than in few-layer graphene. Lastly, to elucidate multiple reflections between the Si substrate and deposited metal nanoparticles, a transparent glass substrate was used for measuring SERS enhancement of graphene. The contribution of multiple reflections to total enhancement on the SiO2 (300 nm)/Si was 1.6 times out of average SERS enhancement factor, 71 times.
