Atoms and small molecules are well-known building blocks in chemistry and materials science. Nanoparticles and microparticles have begun receiving great attention as a new class of building blocks for the production of innovative materials. It is therefore necessary to start developing the methods of organizing them into larger organized products and to explore practical applications of the organized products. With this background in mind we have developed various methods of organizing silica nanoparticles and zeolite microparticles into closely packed and uniformly aligned mono and multilayers on various substrates. The produced zeolite mono and multilayers have served as supramolecularly organized light harvesting systems and as excellent precursors for the preparation of continuous zeolite films with uniform nanopore or nanochannel orientations that are useful for molecular sieving membranes and nonlinear optical films. The highly organized mono and multilayers of silica nano particles will be widely used as photonic materials. Various interesting features of the assembly of silica nanoparticles and zeolite microcrystal and the novel applications of organized products for advanced materials will be presented.
