This research demonstrates an alternate matrix of composite films consisting of Nafion and Zirconia through a sol-gel process for the immobilized by Ru(bpy)32+ on a GC electrode. Zirconia is an inorganic oxide with the thermal stability, chemical inertness, and affinity for the groups containing oxygen, so it is an ideal candidate of materials for immobilization of biomolecules with oxygen groups. The Ru(bpy)32+-immobilized ECL sensor can detect the secondary or tertiary amine compounds. The present ECL sensor based on Zirconia-Nafion composite films will be evaluated in terms of sensitivity, detection limit (3 nM of TPA), and long-term stability (83% of its initial value in 3 weeks) relative to pure Nafion-based ECL sensor for the determination of TPA, oxalate, and NADH. It could be used for the fabrication of biosensor as well as ECL detector in flowing streams such as HPLC and CE.
