A series of organic chromophores have been synthesized as sensitizers for application in dye-sensitized solar cells(DSSCs). New organic sensitizers have a phenoxazine derivative as an electric donor, five-membered ring as a bridge unit and a cyanoacrylic acid moiety as an electric acceptor as well as an anchoring group. The synthesized dyes were identified by NMR and the photovoltaic properties of the cells fabricated with the dyes were investigated by UV-vis spectroscopy, PL spectroscopy, cyclic voltametry and solar simulator. Among the prepared dyes, a phenoxazine dye containing furan moiety showed improvement of photovoltaic performance (η=4.35%) compared to phenoxazine dyes with thiophene moiety and with no additional bridge unit. This was attributed to an increase of short circuit current caused by extended light absorptions of the dye through the introduction of furan moiety.
