Nowadays, the exploration of new photoelectrode architectures to improve the light-harvesting and charge-collection properties of sensitized solar cells and related devices has been regarded as a challenging work. Here, we demonstrate electrodeposition of p-type semiconductor metal oxides (CuxO: Cu2O, CuO and NiO) and metals (Cu and Ni) within polystyrene bead templates to give nanowire mesh inverse opals. More detail preparation and several characterization of p-type semiconductors both with and without metal cores will be discussed. Comparison of the electronic properties among the various photoelectrodes will also be presented. Furthermore, significant efforts have concentrated on finding new materials having low band gap to realize a sufficiently strong absorption to the visible light in the water photoelectrolysis system. Herein, we developed the WO3 based composite for photoelectrochemical water oxidation employing scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) modified from original SECM consisting of a normal ultramicroelectrode. Among a variety of metal precursors, Cu (12 mol%)/WO3 and Zn(12 mol%)/WO3 showed higher photocurrent to 3 times and 2 times in 0.1 M Na2SO3 solutions as a sacrificial reagent compared to pure WO3. More detailed results will be presented.
