In the present study, Fe and Co soft magnetic nanocrystallites were obtained by very easy, economical and nontoxic thermal decomposition method and stabilized by coating of oleate. These nanoparticles have a crystal structure due to high decomposition temperature at low pressure (0.3 Torr) and very narrow size distribution. Monodispersed Fe and Co nanoparticles were synthesized under an argon atmosphere via thermal decomposition of M+2-oleate2 (M = Fe and Co). Nd-Fe-B ultrafine amorphous alloy hard magnetic particles were prepared by reaction of metal ions with borohydride in aqueous solution. In this approach, both hard (Nd2Fe14B) and soft magnetic nanoparticles (Co and Fe) are incorporated as nanometer-scale building blocks into binary assemblies. Exchange coupled Nd2Fe14B/Fe and Nd2Fe14B/Co nanocomposite magnets have been prepared by self-assembly using surfactants.
