In this work, polypropylene (PP) based nanocomposites filled with polypropylene-grafted maleic anhydride treated multiwalled carbon nanotubes (PP-MWNTs) and the surface characteristics of PP-MWNTs and viscoelastic behaviors, mechanical properties of PP-based nanocomposites were investigated with different PP-MWNT contents. PP-MWNTs/PP nanocomposites were prepared by melt mixing with 3:1 ratio of PP-g-MA to acid treated MWNTs at 220 oC in brabender. And surface characteristics of PP-MWNTs by infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Raman spectroscopy (FT-Raman) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The rheological and Mechanical properties of PP-MWNTs/PP composites were confirmed by rheometer and ultimate testing machine (UTM). As a result, rheological analysis shows the increase in storage and loss modulus in all of PP-MWNTs content. And critical intensity stress factor (KIC) has also increased with increasing PP-MWNTs content. In conclusion, the increase in rheological and mechanical characterizations of the nanocomposites were demonstrated the efficiency of PP-g-MA as a compatibilizer to promote the dispersion of MWNTs in the PP.
