TiO2 – ZrO2 acid –base bifunctional catalysts were prepared by co-precipitation method using titanium chloride and zirconium oxychloride as precursors of titania and zirconia respectively and aqueous ammonia as hydrolyzing agent at pH 7-8. The acid –base properties were estimated by TPD of NH3 and CO2 respectively and also been estimated by a test reaction. The acidic sites were estimated by the decomposition of 2-methyl-3-butyne-2-ol (MBOH) in to in to 3-methyl-3-butene-1-yne and 3-methyl-2-buten-1-al and the basic sites were estimated by the acetone and acetylene. TiO2 – ZrO2 acid –base bifunctional catalysts were found to excellent for the dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene to styrene in the presence of CO2.
