Over the past decade, we have synthesized two-dimensional (2D) inorganic nanosheets and applied them as building blocks for novel nanohybrid materials. Our main research purpose is to explore new efficient electrode materials applicable for the storage of electrical energy. The 2D nanosheets of layered metal oxides and layered double hydroxides are synthesized by soft-chemical exfoliation reaction of pristine layered materials. In terms of electrostatic interaction, the exfoliated nanosheets can be used as useful precursors for porous heterostructured nanohybrids, multilayered films, porous hollow spheres, electrophoretically deposited films, and so on. Several practical examples of the 2D inorganic nanosheets and their nanohybrid materials with promising electrode functionalities for lithium ion batteries and supercapacitors will be presented. Also, the relationship between chemical bonding nature and physicochemical properties of the nanohybrid materials will be discussed in detail.
