A noble europium (III) complex was used to photosensitize TiO2/Polyaniline-CNT nanocomposites by absorbing visible light photons and inject electrons to conduction band of TiO2 to improve the efficiency of visible light. First, TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized by sol-gel process. The preliminary tests indicated that the lab-prepared TiO2 NPs were sufficiently active for photocatalytic degradation of CH3CHO, which was similar to that displayed by Degussa P-25 under UV irradiation. Second, polyaniline (PAn)-carbon nanotube (CNT) modified TiO2 nanocomposites were prepared by a simple evaporation and drying process in the presence of lab-prepared TiO2 NPs. Finally, the lab-prepared noble Eu(III) complex was doped onto the nanocomposite by dipping method. The structure and morphology of nanocomposites have been studied using FT-IR spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM). The improvement of thermal stability and crystallinity were evaluated by thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The photocatalytic activity of Eu(III)-doped nanocomposite has been investigated for the photodegradation of organic compounds under visible light irradiation.
