Preparation of efficient ion conducting system is one of the most attractive fields in the material chemistry. Although still there are many problems to be solved, recent efforts from various fields have been overcoming them. However, the detailed structural information of conductive phase especially in polymer based conductor is essential to provide better understanding of conduction event and the strategy for the design of efficient conductive system.
Recently, we have successfully revealed the structure of conduction path in the self-assembled soft structure of newly synthesized multi-interactive molecule, tris(4-pyridyl)hexaazaphenalene (TPHAP) by ab initio XRPD method. The potassium salt of TPHAP showed high ion conductivity up to 3.4 x 10^3 S/cm by fully hydration. This high conductivity was realized by the large water channel formation which is stabilized by weak intermolecular interaction between TPHAP and water molecules. Our materials can be good models for understanding the conduction mechanism of soft materials like polymer. Here, we extend our study to different counter cation system and discuss the effects of them for the ion conductivity and the structure.
