The synthesis, spectroscopic characterization, and fluorescence quenching efficiencies of silafluorene were reported. The synthesized compounds were characterized by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. Absorption and emission spectra for these compounds were obtained by using UV-Visible and fluorescence spectroscopy in solution. Their emission behaviors and quantum yield for these compounds were investigated both in the solid and colloid state. Our results indicated that both compounds were used as the chemo-sensor to detect various type of explosives such as nitro-amines (1,3,5-trinitroperhydro-1,3,5-triazine, RDX), nitro-aromatics (1,3,5-trinitrotoluene, TNT), and nitrate esters (PETN). The results of detection efficiencies showed that both compounds could be used as an excellent chemo-sensor and other silafluorene derivatives were synthesized and their photonic behaviors were investigated.
