A Raman Agent Monitoring System(RAMS), a 248 nm mobile Raman spectrometer, is a technique which exploits Raman scattering to provide stand-off detection identification of toxic liquid chemicals such as chemical warfare agents and toxic industrial chemicals deposited on the ground surfaces in moving. The RAMS collects counts on photons emitted by an agent on a surface through a telescope and displays the result on a spectrograph. Raman scattering occurs when light interacts with a molecue. The molecule vibrates and scatters wavelength shifted light. The wavelength shifts and their associated intensities are dependent on the size, shape, and bonding forces of the molecue creating, thus, a distict spectral signature for the associted chemical. In this presentation, Raman signals for various samples of ground surfaces and real surfaces with a RAMS were measured and analyzed. There are no significant characteristics in Raman signals of these surfaces. There results shows that RAMS can detect and identify toxic liquid chemicals on ground surafces in moving and in real-time.
