Ketones are one of the important functional groups in organic compounds. The general method for preparation of ketones from the secondary alcohols proceeds via oxidation. In addition, we reported that esters to ketones is made by the reaction with organometallic reagents at lower temperatures through morpholine amide intermediates using diisobutyl(morpholino)aluminum.
We carried out to find the novel and efficient method for the synthesis of ketones from esters. And, we optimized the reaction parameters such as mole ratio, solvent, temperature and mode of addition. As a result, after the addition of morpholine to ester followed by organometallic reagents yielded ketone with excellent yield. Therefore this method provides the practical synthesis of variety of ketones by using organometallic reagents from esters under mild conditions.
