Multistructured porous silicons have been recently investigated for use in their possible applications, because they exhibit unique optical properties providing the reflection of a specific wavelength in the optical reflectivity spectrum. DBR PSi having the photonic structure of a Bragg filter can be generated by applying a computer generated square current density waveform. Drug delivery systems are interested in the controlled release of drugs. In some cases, there is a desire to monitor the status of the drug release in vivo. When the DBR reflectance peak can be tuned at wavelengths corresponding to a region of relatively low absorption in human tissue, such measurements could be possible in vivo. Here, we examine the distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) porous silicon/PMMA composite materials for the controlled release drug delivery application. To examine the possible application in drug delivery in tissue engineering, the measurement of decay in the intensity of DBR peak has been used to monitor the release of drug from a composite film.
