Polymer surfactants have been widely used to control nanostructures since the Pt nanomaterials were produced by reduction of the Pt salts in the presence of PAA. Several polymers have been accessed for making various Nps however, nothing is more successful than PVP. Herein, we have chosen the polymers structurally similar to PVP and applied them to the gold nanocube synthesis. PDMAm and PEOz have successfully afforded the nanocube structure, which confirms the importance of the amide functionality. In comparison with the reactions of PDMAEMA and PAA, the products reveal that the carbonyl groups make strong interaction with the colloid surface. The PDMAEMA-capped NCs exhibit interesting LCST behavior. We anticipate that such a rational design of surface regulating polymer can introduce various physical properties and functions into the metal NCs systems as well as shaping metal NCs.
