Nitric oxide (NO) plays a variety of role in biological systems. NO is produced from L-arginine, which is catalyzed by nitric oxide synthases (NOSs). In recent years, researchers found 3 types of NOSs: nNOS (neuronal NOS), iNOS (inducible NOS), and eNOS (endothelial NOS). Among these, iNOS can do destruction of tumors. This can be utilized for cancer. It has been known that ruthenium nitrosyl (RuNO) complexes have a great NO releasing ability, which is induced by photons. This has a potential in facilitating cancer treatment. For this reason, many kinds of ligands were reported for RuNO complexes. In this research, we have developed new RuNO complexes with tetradenate quinoline-derivative ligands aiming at a high quantum yield. We have monitored the photo-induced NO-releasing of the RuNO complexes using NMR, IR, UV-Vis, and EPR. Here, we discuss the results.
