Materials structured on the nanometer scale give rise to many interesting new optical and electrical properties. The optical properties of metal nanostructures and their potential applications in a variety of fields, from biology to optoelectronics have generated considerable concern. Much of this interest is due to the growing mastery of nanofabrication methods that enable metallic nanostructures of controlled size and shape to be realized. The optical resonant behavior is due to the collective electronic or plasmon resonance of electrons in the metal, known as plasmon resonances or surface plasmons (SPs), which occur at the interface between a metal and a dielectric material. Among all metals, Ag shows the most intensive SPR absorption in the visible region due to the favorable frequency dependence of the dielectric function. Using the SPs of Ag, we observed enhanced the OLED performance, enhanced the photo conversion efficiency of an organic solar cells, enhanced absorption of surrounding electrochromism (EC) materials, and demonstrated the plasmonic band structures by periodic metallic patterns based on the soft lithography such as surface relief grating (SRG).
