Speciation of arsenic in food and dietary supplements is essential in order to provide a meaningful assessment of exposure due to differences in toxicities of the chemical forms. In this study, chromatographic methods have been coupled with mass spectrometry to quantitatively determine arsenic species in seaweed samples. First of all, various extraction methods have been investigated for the seaweed samples. The standard five arsenic species of As V, As III, DMA, MMA, and Arsenobetaine were separated with chromatographic methods, then the arsenic species were selectively detected by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. After the calibration curves for the arsenic species were obtained, the extracted arsenic species from seaweed by the optimum extraction method were determined by the combined analytical method.
