Glycans in living organisms play critical roles in both normal physiological processes and detrimental disease processes through their interactions with proteins. Therefore, it is important to understand the molecular basis for specific protein-glycan recognition events. As attempts to develop powerful methods for studying high-throughput carbohydrate-protein interactions, we have fabricated carbohydrate and protein microarrays by immobilizing a variety of carbohydrates or proteins onto the properly modified solid surfaces. The fabricated microarrays have been applied for biological and biomedical research. In this presentation, I discuss carbohydrate and protein microarrays for studying biological processes that are associated with carbohydrate-protein interactions.
