Nucleophilic substitution at a carbonyl carbon has been the subject of intensive experimental and theoretical studies. Although the nucleophilic substitution reactions of benzoyl derivatives with anionic as well as nucleophiles have been widely investigated, there is relatively little work reported on the reactions of five-membered hetero-aromatic carbonyl compounds such as thenoyl and furoyl derivatives. We are interested in studying the mechanism of solvolysis of 2-Furoyl Chloride, especially for on going reactions by a dissociation mechanism. In this work, we examined reaction mechanism involved in the solvoysis of 2-Furoyl Chloride, with variety of pure and mixed solvents, eq 1, by determining on the magnitudes of the l and m of the extended Grunwald-Winstein equation, eq 2. 2-Furoyl Chloride + SOH/H2O —→ ( 1 ) log (k/ko) = lNT + mYX + c ( 2 )
