Highly water soluble and biocompatible nanoparticles with low toxicity and diversification of imaging modality are widely used in biomedical application. To make stable nanoparticles with less toxicity, it is necessary to coat nanoparticles with hydrophilic and bio-compatible ligands. Here, we synthesized ultrasmall Gd2O3 nanoparticles coated with polyacrylic acids (PAAs) and D-glucosamine of different concentration. They are characterized with FT-IR, XRD, TGA, TEM, Toxicity test, and MRI instrument. In this study it is shown that all samples with good biocompatibility and the r1 and r2 values decreased with increasing glucosamine concentration. The magnetic property and their potential as tumor-targeting MRI contrast agent.
