Oxidation is a versatile method of synthesizing useful chemicals such as drugs, industrial raw materials, and additives. Naturally, oxidation can occur in ambient condition, but this method takes a long time and even needs microbial, and the purity of the final products are relatively low. To avoid these problems, a variety of additives and catalysts were developed. Manganese complexes are the most well-known oxidants, and transition-metal catalysts such as ruthenium, palladium and nickel have been employed. However, these methods have several disadvantages in the aspect of sustainability and environmental issues. In this study, we developed a benzylic aerobic oxidation method without using any metal complexes. Detailed mechanisms and reaction conditions are discussed.
