There have been a large number of studies of transition metal complexes involving N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands. Depending on the type of coordination, complexes can be categorized: monodentate, bidentate, tridentate, etc. The numerous types of NHC ligands also has been developed. Monocarbene ligand has one imidazolium ring with N-substituents. Other types are having more than two imidazolium rings such as biscarbene, CNC type, CCC type, tripodal, Janus, etc. Bimetallic complexes which have two transition metal centers have been reported. It is classified with homometallic which has the same metal and heterometallic which has different metal. In this study, we synthesized a new type of ligands that have three imidazolium rings linked by linear alkyl chains. Using our ligands, we synthesized nomo- and bimetallic Ir complexes. These complexes were applied to hydrogen mediated catalytic reactions. Detailed synthetic methods and reaction conditions will be discussed.
