Lignin is a rising part of the lignocellulose of biomass and an aromatic biopolymer. So far, the conversion of lignin was not main stream due to the complexity of depolymerization. In modern industry, aromatic compounds have usually been produced from fossil fuels. Finding an efficient and selective catalyst to depolymerize lignin will be eco-friendly and useful in the production of aromatic compounds. Since The main bonding of lignin consists of β-O-4 linkage, for depolymerizing it is necessary to cleave cut the C-C and C-O bond of β-O-4 block of lignin. However, it is difficult to cleave C-C bonding selectively compared to C-O bonding because the C-C bonding is stronger. In this study , we have proposed an effective copper-catalyzed C-C oxidative cleavage of lignin model compounds. This reaction condition will suggest an effective direction to convert lignin into value-added aromatic products.
