High-valent iron(IV)-oxo [FeIV(O)] complexes as well as iron(IV)-imido [FeIV(NTs)] complexes have been invoked as key intermediates in enzymatic and synthetic oxidative transformation reactions. Encouraged by the previous report of the FeIV(O) complex bearing a 13-TMC ligand ([FeIV(O)(13-TMC)]2+), we attempted to generate an FeIV(NTs) complex bearing the same 13-TMC ligand ([FeIV(NTs)(13-TMC)]2+). In the present study, a mononuclear iron(IV)-imido complex, [FeIV(NTs)(13-TMC)]2+, was generated and characterized by various spectroscopic techniques. The reactivity of FeIV(NTs) species generated was investigated in the H-atom abstraction (C-H bond activation) and nitrene transfer reactions, resulting that FeIV(NTs) is capable of both C-H bond activation and nitrene transfer reactions. Reactivity comparison between FeIV(NTs) and FeIV(O) complexes bearing same 13-TMC ligand has also been discussed.
