Various selenite compounds have been synthesized and reported up to date. Lately, we have synthesized a unique novel non-centrosymmetric bismuth fluoride selenite compound by a solvothermal reaction. By analyzing the energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), we assured that this compound consists of Bi, Se, O, and F. Single crystal X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD) indicates that the new selenite crystallizes in the monoclinic polar space group P21 with a three-dimensional (3D) structure. The 3D framework of the selenite fluoride compound is composed of (BiO5), (BiO5F), (BiO6F), (SeO3)2-, and (Se2O5)2- groups. Furthermore, the novel compound has been fully characterized by ultraviolet (UV) and Infrared (IR) spectroscopy as well as thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).
