TiO2 is known to be apt for anode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) due to small volume changes, safety, and environment-friendliness. Lotus-root shaped TiO2 is formed by a self-assembly process in basic aqueous solution, and the components of the reactant are cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), cholesterol, base, and titanium (IV) isopropoxide. Depending on the calcination temperatures, porous TiO2 gets different kinds of crystalline phases. Ordinarily, the rutile phase occurs above 550 °C, and the anatase phase occurs below that temperature. The N2 gas sorption and electrochemical performance data show that the anatase-rich composite material is better electrode material than the rutile-rich one. For detail, the anatase-rich one has a large surface area for lithium-ion insertion by efficient stacking of spherical anatase grains, the more stable cyclability, and the better rate capability and electrical conductivity than the rutile-rich one.
